Welcome to the New Mexico Watercolor Connection

When I got to New Mexico
that was mine. As soon
as I saw it that was
my country. I’d never
seen anything like it
before, but it fitted me
exactly. It’s something
that’s in the air – it’s
different. The sky is
different, the wind is
different. I shouldn’t
say too much about it
because other people
may be interested and
I don’t want them interested.
Georgia O’Keeffe 1977

Hi All

Well it has taken me a while - but here it is - the New Mexico Watercolor Connection. I hope our web page will be an easy and fun way to stay in touch with each other, share our thoughts and watercolor images AND plan for future painting adventures.

It was so wonderful meeting each of you at Jan Hart's watercolor workshop in Espanola.
After the workshop I returned to Albuquerque and before I knew it I was home in Wellesley Massachusetts. As soon as I returned home I read 'Georgia O'Keeffe and, New Mexico/
A Sense of Place'  the book that was written for the first exhibit at the Georgia O'Keeffe museum in Santa Fe.I bought the book at Ghost Ranch. This book is a treasure and so inspiring. Not only does it talk about how O'Keeffe captured the essence of the land, but it also talks about the rich history of the land. And O'Keeffe's beautiful paintings. I highly recommend it.

I finished my workshop skull painting by darkening the green background.

Here is my first painting of the Chama River.

This is my painting of the Chama River from this morning!

And for a touch of New England here is my painting of a scene in Kennebunkport Maine.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Happy painting.

Phyllis

  1. hi Phyllis!
The blog looks great, love the background and the idea that everyone from Jan's Espanola workshop can continue to share work and ideas, and stay in touch. Thanks again for doing this, I will post some recent paintings soon. Cheers, Robin
